About Us

Western United was formed at the beginning of the 1999 season. It was the idea of former player Steve Letcher, who had recently moved into the Hoppers Crossing area, that noticed the interest and potential for a new franchise.

The club has the benefit of being a truly United West, that is; no club in the VCSA existed within 40 kilometres until the birth of St.George in 2005 (now defunct). This has meant that players from places such as Melton and Altona have been welcomed as equally as local talent.

Since its inception in '99, Western Utd. have already produced three Association Best and Fairest Winners and its first team was promoted to Division One in season 2000 and again in 2003. It began running a second team, playing in the lower divisions in 2001, and in 2010 the club expanded even further seeing the introduction of a third mens side, currently plying their trade in Division 6.

Season 2004 saw the inauguration of the Western United's Ladies' side.

This proved an immnediate success with a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the knockout competition. Close ties with Heathdale Christian College have been maintained along with a friendly, casual but determined atmosphere around the club.

Season 2010 sees WU enter one Mens side in Division Two, and 2 others in division four and six. Its ladies side currently plays in Division Two.
